Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry marks a significant milestone with the launch of the 31st National Bartenders Competition, celebrating over three decades of excellence, talent development, and innovation in the art of bartending. Organized by the Sri Lanka Hospitality Graduates Association (SLHGA) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM), and in partnership with International Distillers Limited (IDL), this year’s edition reflects the continued evolution of Sri Lanka’s hospitality and beverage landscape.
As the industry continues to strengthen, the competition serves as an important platform highlighting the growing role of skilled and creative professionals in elevating service standards and guest experiences. Over the years, it has played a vital role in nurturing emerging talent, enabling participants to refine their craft and contribute to raising industry benchmarks.
In the lead-up to the competition, regional training and briefing sessions were successfully conducted across six regions islandwide. These sessions provided participants with hands-on guidance, technical knowledge, and valuable industry insights, ensuring they are well-prepared to compete at a national level.
This competition is especially important in developing young talent, giving them the confidence, exposure, and opportunity to perform at international standards, while encouraging innovation.
We are proud to partner with International Distillers Ltd and the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management for the 31st edition, whose support continues to strengthen this platform. As the Sri Lanka Hospitality Graduates Association, we remain committed to nurturing talent and supporting the growth of a creative, inclusive, and globally competitive hospitality industry.”
This competition celebrates the uniquely Sri Lankan spirit that inspires so much of the work we do with local ingredients, bold flavours and imaginative presentations. From indigenous spices to tropical fruits, our bartenders are turning Sri Lanka’s bounty into world-class cocktails that tell our story with every sip. Supporting that creativity and showcasing our homegrown talent is at the heart of what we do.
I’m particularly happy to note that this year once again we have a record number of female participants. This increase is more than a statistic; it is proof of inclusive growth, widening access to opportunity and the strength diversity brings to our industry. We applaud every woman and every competitor who is raising the bar and inspiring the next generation.”
Now in its fourth consecutive year of partnership, IDL continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening the industry ecosystem. Through its support, the competition has evolved into a national platform that fosters innovation, celebrates creativity, and empowers the next generation of hospitality professionals.
Over the past three decades, the National Bartenders Competition has established itself as a cornerstone initiative in hospitality education and professional development. Through regional workshops, technical seminars, and competitive showcases, it provides participants with valuable opportunities to enhance their skills, gain industry exposure, and engage with modern mixology practices.
Introducing global trends while recognising emerging local talent has been a fulfilling journey. As we look ahead, we remain excited to discover a new generation of professional mixologists who will showcase creativity, innovation, and skill, reflecting the artistry and spirit of Sri Lankan hospitality.”
The 31st edition is set to be the most expansive and impactful yet, bringing together talent from across the island while reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a destination known for its vibrant hospitality culture. With a strong legacy and forward-looking vision, the competition continues to inspire excellence, foster professional growth, and shape the future of bartending in Sri Lanka.
