Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) marked Vesak Full Moon Poya Day with a vibrant evening of devotion, culture and community spirit at its head office premises in Colombo. The CDB Vesak Bakthi Gee Saraniya, Lantern Exhibition and Dansala 2026 brought together team members and the public in a celebration that reflected both Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage and CDB’s commitment to religious harmony.
The programme commenced with a Pirith chanting ceremony, setting a sacred tone for the evening. This was followed by a Bakthi Gee recital where the team’s voices came together to honour the spiritual essence of Vesak. The lanterns, crafted entirely from sustainable materials as part of CDB’s sustainability strategy, illuminated the premises while showcasing the creativity and teamwork of employees. The serving of noodles at the Dansala further reflected the true spirit of Vesak, embodying the values of generosity, compassion, and community. Similar Vesak celebrations were held at CDB branches islandwide, with lanterns lighting up each location and religious observances conducted.
Managing Director/CEO Mahesh Nanayakkara stated that Vesak is not only a time of religious observance but also a moment to celebrate unity, compassion and shared humanity. “Our diverse team came together to create an inclusive celebration that embodies the true spirit of Vesak.”
Organised entirely by Team CDB encompassing multiple faiths and cultural backgrounds, these Vesak celebrations reinforced CDB’s workplace culture of inclusivity and volunteerism. By honouring Buddhist traditions while embracing participation from all communities, CDB demonstrates that harmony and respect are at the heart of its values. The Dansala extended that spirit of generosity to the wider community, embodying the Vesak principle of dana (giving).
Through initiatives like these, CDB continues to position itself as a value-driven entity that nurtures employee engagement and preserves cultural heritage, strengthening brand affinity with the public.
