Wycherley International School recently marked a major milestone with the launch of its 40th Anniversary Coffee Table Book, a celebration of four decades of vision, dedication, and educational excellence. “This book has been a personal dream of mine,” said Mr. Dayan Fernando, former Principal of Wycherley Colombo and now Coordinating Principal of Wycherley Schools and CEO of ANC Education. “Coming from a school rich in tradition, I’ve always believed that Wycherley deserves this recognition. I hope future generations will understand the foundations laid by our founders, past principals, and dedicated teachers.” More than a collection of photographs, the book tells the story of Wycherley through the people who shaped it: founders, educators, students, and alumni. “It is a tribute to four decades of vision, perseverance, and heart,” Mr. Fernando said, reflecting on the privilege of standing between the legacy of the past and the promise of the future. Special recognition went to Chairman Dr. Jagath Alwis, whose leadership has guided the school’s growth, and to Mr. Fernando’s predecessors, Dr. Frank Jayasinghe and the late Mr. Kingsley Jayasinghe. Addressing students and alumni, Mr. Fernando urged, “Do not ask what the school can give you, but what you can give to the school. The best chapters of Wycherley are still to come.”
The book, compiled by Events Coordinator Ms. Bernadette Nagarajah, is a labour of love capturing Wycherley’s memories, milestones, and spirit. The launch was also graced by founders Mr. C.T.A. Schaffter, Mr. M.H.M. Rafiq, and Mr. T.J. Emmanuel, who reflected on the school’s growth from humble beginnings to a leading institution recognized for excellence in academics, sports, and character building. With a student population of around 4,500, Wycherley is celebrated for its strong discipline, high standards, and holistic education. Dr. Alwis reaffirmed the importance of nurturing the student- teacher relationship and fostering well-rounded development. Current Principal Ms. Dulka Mendis paid tribute to past leaders and thanked the wider school community for their ongoing support. She addressed the students directly: “To my beloved students, the heart of Wycherley, may you always cherish the values instilled in you, the teachers who shaped you, and the memories created. May this book inspire generations to come, reminding us all of where we began, what we stand for, and the journey that lies ahead.”
