No price hikes for imported milk powder and wheat flour

Imported milk powder and wheat flour prices will remain unchanged in the coming months, as importers and companies provided guarantees to the government.

Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe received these assurances during a special discussion held at the Ministry Yesterday (23).

The Ministry summoned milk powder importers, along with wheat flour companies Prima and Serendib, to discuss maintaining an uninterrupted supply chain despite global conflicts impacting distribution.

Representatives confirmed that no price increases will occur until the conclusion of the upcoming New Year festive season.

While the current economic climate, including rising fuel costs and a stronger dollar, affects production expenses, company representatives stated they intend to support the public during this difficult period.

They further guaranteed that stocks sufficient for the next three months are currently available.

During the meeting, companies highlighted that existing fuel quotas hinder their distribution networks.

Minister Samarasinghe instructed them to register with a new data collection program designed to streamline fuel requirements for food transport services.

High-ranking officials, including Ministry Secretary K.A. Vimalenthirarajah and chairmen from the Consumer Affairs Authority and Lanka Sathosa, also participated in the session.
