Sri Lanka and Vietnam set to boost connectivity and trade with new direct flights and expanded cooperation

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that Vietnam Airlines will commence direct flights between Sri Lanka and Vietnam within this year. 


The announcement was made during a joint media briefing held alongside visiting Vietnamese President Tô Lâm, highlighting the growing diplomatic and economic partnership between the two nations.


President Dissanayake expressed optimism that this new air link will facilitate increased tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange, further deepening the bilateral relationship. 

He also projected that bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Vietnam could reach $1 billion by 2030, underscoring the ambitious economic goals shared by both countries.

President Tô Lâm reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening relations across all sectors with Sri Lanka. 


In his remarks, he emphasized Vietnam’s desire to expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, and tourism, reflecting a shared vision of mutual growth and development.
