Melwa supports children affected by Dithwa cyclone with school supplies donation

Sri Lanka’s leading steel manufacturer, Melwa, has extended its support to schoolchildren affected by the natural disasters caused by the Dithwa Cyclone by distributing essential stationery and school equipment. A large number of families across several provinces including the Central, Uva, North Central, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Eastern Provinces were impacted by the cyclone. Many children lost their books and school supplies due to floods and landslides. With the objective of enabling uninterrupted access to education, Melwa organised this donation programme to assist affected students in continuing their studies without disruption.

Melwa stated that the company consistently implements community development initiatives focused on education, higher education and vocational training. The company further expressed its commitment to continue supporting children across the country through similar programmes in the future, with the aim of nurturing a knowledgeable and skilled generation that contributes to strengthening Sri Lanka’s economy. Founded in 2003, Melwa has expanded its business operations across multiple sectors and today stands as Sri Lanka’s largest steel manufacturer. The company produces and markets a wide range of products including rebars, flat iron, angle iron, wire rods, galvanised hollow sections and pipes, purlins, welding electrodes, gypsum boards, plywood and brass hinges. These products serve the construction industry and several other related sectors across the country.
