Melwa introduces its latest product, SLS 414 certified first welding rod in Sri Lanka
Melwa, the leading steel manufacturer in Sri Lanka, recently introduced its latest product—Melwa Welding Rods—to the market. Produced by Melwa, a local company that has played a significant role in the development of the country’s construction sector, these welding rods are of high quality. Notably, they are 100% locally manufactured and come with SLS 414 certifications. This marks the first time a welding rod that is entirely locally produced has been introduced to the Sri Lankan market. Melwa is confident that these new welding rods will become the top choice among welders, particularly for welding wire and galvanised sheets, offering strong performance, long durability, and excellent smoothness. These rods are expected to provide strong support for welders to carry out their work more safely and efficiently. Manufactured using high-quality raw materials and in compliance with international standards, this new product ensures a perfect weld finish.
As part of the launch, a special workshop was held for welders in Balangoda on 24 June. During the session, participants were introduced to these welding rods and given the opportunity to test them out first-hand. The feedback was positive, with many welders praising the product’s performance and ease of use. Melwa, which consistently focuses on the safety and professional advancement of those in the welding industry, has also launched several supportive programmes. These include organising training workshops for welders, sponsoring them to obtain recognised professional certifications such as the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 Certificate awarded by the National Vocational Training Authority, and providing safety equipment and accessories. In addition, Melwa conducts training sessions to educate welders on the correct use of Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes and Box Bars, as well as on safe and proper welding techniques, making a valuable contribution to the construction sector.
