German Travel Specialists experience Lanka’s cultural and nature-based tourism offerings

A curated journey across Sri Lanka’s most captivating destinations recently took place as leading German travel specialists were hosted by Connaissance De Ceylan and Thema Collection on an exclusive familiarisation tour in mid-April.

The itinerary showcased a diverse mix of coastal, cultural, and nature-based experiences across Weligama, Gal Oya, Passikudah, Polonnaruwa, Kandalama, and Kandy, highlighting the island’s broad tourism appeal.

Key experiences included a tranquil boat safari at Gal Oya National Park, offering close wildlife encounters in a natural setting. Participants also joined Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations at Wild Glamping Gal Oya by Thema Collection, where traditional games, cuisine, and cultural rituals were showcased.

A significant cultural highlight of the tour was engagement with the Vedda community, where guests experienced a guided forest walk and gained insight into the community’s traditional way of life and heritage.

The journey concluded at Spice Ceylon Matale, a signature experiential destination under the Thema Collection portfolio.

Organisers said the carefully designed itinerary demonstrated Sri Lanka’s unique ability to blend culture, nature, and authenticity into a single travel experience, strengthening its appeal in key European markets such as Germany.

The familiarisation tour is expected to further enhance destination awareness among international travel partners and support the promotion of Sri Lanka as a premium experiential tourism destination.
