Currency: LKR-USD selling rate crosses Rs. 324

Sri Lanka’s rupee continued to depreciate against the US dollar, with the selling rate climbing above Rs. 324 for the first time in over two years, while the buying rate of the US dollar stood at Rs. 316.40, while the selling rate rose to Rs. 324.03 yesterday (6).

This is the first time the selling rate has exceeded Rs. 324 since 24 January 2024. The buying rate had already crossed the Rs. 316 marked Tuesday (5) for the first time since 18 January 2024.

The SPOT exchange rate was recorded at Rs. 319.78 yesterday. It had reached Rs. 319.93 on Monday (4) before easing slightly to Rs. 319.51 Tuesday (5).

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reported that the rupee has depreciated by 2.9% against the US dollar on 30 April 2026. The latest movements indicated a growing pressure on the local currency amid evolving market conditions.
