Tourism: Arrivals surpass 1.7 million in 2026

Sri Lanka recorded over 1.7 million tourist arrivals so far this year, according to latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

According to the latest figures, a total number of 1,717,028 tourists arrived in the country between 1 January and 14 September, while 23,349 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka between 1 and 4 October.

India topped the tourist arrivals in 2026, with a total of 447,476 Indian nationals visiting Sri Lanka, following the United Kingdom (UK) with 161,886 arrivals, 114,678 arrivals from China and 98,262 arrivals from Germany.

Also, India recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals during the first four days of October, with 10,062 Indian tourists visiting the country during that period.
