Suwasevana Hospital Launches State-of-the-Art Cardiothoracic Modular Theatre in Kandy

Suwasevana Hospital, one of the most trusted names in private healthcare in Sri Lanka’s central region, has further expanded its advanced surgical capabilities with the launch of a state-of-the-art Cardiothoracic Modular Theatre. Purpose-built to support complex cardiac procedures, this new facility underscores the hospital’s continued commitment to excellence in patient care.

The new modular theatre was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Masood Imad, High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, at a special ceremony attended by distinguished guests and members of the hospital’s leadership team.

Equipped to international standards, the theatre integrates cutting-edge technology including laminar airflow, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial wall coatings to maintain ultra-sterile conditions. Precise control of temperature and humidity, combined with these features, significantly reduces infection risk and enhances surgical outcomes, particularly for high-risk procedures such as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), valve repairs, and surgeries for congenital heart defects.

“Our goal has always been to invest in technologies that translate into safer, more effective care for our patients. The launch of our Cardiothoracic Modular Theatre marks a significant step in that direction. It reinforces our role as a centre of excellence for cardiac surgery in Sri Lanka’s central region,” said Mr. Nalin Pasqual, CEO of Suwasevana Hospital.

The theatre is supported by a dedicated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), which features 24/7 monitoring, ventilators, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), and continuous telemetry. Staffed by a skilled team of cardiac intensivists and trained nurses, the CICU ensures expert post-operative care from admission through recovery.

In addition, Suwasevana’s in-house blood bank facilitates rapid transfusions and provides critical support during surgical procedures, enhancing patient safety and treatment efficiency.

“Our experienced staff and panel of cardiothoracic surgeons are the biggest strength delivering safe surgery,” said Mr. Srimath Bandara Welivita, Head of Branding at Suwasevana Hospital.

To maintain stringent infection control, the hospital adheres to international sterilization protocols including autoclaves, ethylene oxide gas sterilization, and zoned sterile environments, further validated through regular quality checks.

This milestone follows Suwasevana’s recent collaboration with the National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) under the Agrahara Medical Insurance Scheme. The partnership enables government employees and their families to benefit from free admission, special discounts on diagnostics and room rates, and a Rs. 50,000 reduction in charges for heart bypass surgery (CABG), making life-saving cardiac care more accessible and affordable.

Centrally located in Kandy, Suwasevana Hospital (PVT) LTD offers 150 rooms and a comprehensive suite of advanced medical services. With a longstanding reputation for compassionate and high-standard care, the hospital continues to lead the way in private healthcare delivery across Sri Lanka’s hill country.
