Sri Lanka beat Seychelles 3-0 in FIFA International Friendly

Sri Lanka recorded a convincing 3–0 victory over Seychelles in the first match of their two-game FIFA international friendly series at Stade Linite in Victoria, Seychelles, yesterday.

Neither side managed to score during the opening 45 minutes until Sri Lanka took the lead in first-half injury time. Adhavan Raja Mohan converted a penalty in the 45+2nd minute to give Sri Lanka a 1–0 advantage at half-time.

Raja Mohan doubled Sri Lanka’s lead in the 52nd minute when he found the net from a free kick.

Sri Lanka completed the scoring in the 76th minute when Dillon de Silva scored the team’s third goal to seal a 3–0 victory.

The second match between Sri Lanka and Seychelles will be played at the same Stade Linite venue on September 30.

Sri Lanka and Seychelles previously met twice in 2014. Seychelles won the first encounter 3–0, while Sri Lanka won the second match 2–1.

According to the current FIFA rankings provided for the two teams, Sri Lanka are ranked 187th while Seychelles are ranked 204th.

The friendly series is part of Sri Lanka’s preparations for the upcoming South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup. The Football Federation of Sri Lanka has arranged four FIFA-approved international friendly matches for the national team between September 27 and October 6.

Under the “Win SAFF Again” campaign, Sri Lanka will play two matches against Seychelles on September 27 and 30, followed by a match against Syria on October 4 and another against Mauritius on October 6.

Sri Lanka are targeting a return to the top of the SAFF Cup after a 31-year gap, having last won the regional championship in 1995.

Following the four international friendlies, Sri Lanka will compete at the 15th edition of the SAFF Championship, scheduled to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from November 4 to 17, 2026.
