Rs. 7.5 b more for Re-MSME Plus as Rs. 30 b allocation runs out

The Government will add Rs. 7.5 billion to the Re-MSME Plus loan scheme after participating financial institutions used up its full Rs. 30 billion allocation, Cabinet Spokesperson and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.

He was speaking at the media briefing on decisions taken at Monday’s (12) Cabinet meeting. Dr. Jayatissa said lenders had finished appraising applications and approving loans for further projects. They reported that these projects, now ready for disbursement, need about Rs. 7.5 billion more.

By the end of August 2026, projects worth Rs. 4.28 billion had been approved to revive businesses hit by the Ditwah disaster. A further Rs. 25.93 billion had been approved for other micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Re-MSME Plus was launched this year. It combines the earlier Re-MSME loan scheme with several other selected credit programs. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented the proposal in his role as Finance Minister
