The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon marked the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a vibrant and culturally rich celebration at T.B Illangarathne playground Angoda recently, bringing together students, academic and non-academic staff, and alumni in a spirit of unity and festivity.
The event commenced with a traditional New Year breakfast table featuring a variety of authentic Sri Lankan delicacies, organized by the students of the Institute. The Institute’s President, senior academic members, and former office-bearers also participated.
Traditional New Year games, including Tug of War, Kotta Pora, Aliyata Asa Thabeema, Banis Kama and Thoppi Maru, added excitement and enthusiasm to the celebration. Participants actively engaged in these activities, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the day.
Adding colour and vibrancy to the event, students, staff, and alumni were dressed in traditional attire, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. The celebration not only provided entertainment but also served as a meaningful platform to strengthen relationships and promote cultural values among the IChemC community.
