Kelani Cable’s CSR program ‘Kelani Saviya’ reaches 11 th milestone with latest Diploma awards ceremony

Kelani Cables PLC, the company that produces Sri Lanka’s number one brand of secure electrical and communication cables ‘Kelani Cables’, reached another milestone in its long-standing CSR program ‘Kelani Saviya’ with the conducting of 11th Diploma awards ceremony. 


'Kelani Saviya' is the award winning one-year electrical technicians’ training program conducted by Kelani Cables PLC in association with the Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya since 2007. ‘Kelani Saviya’ is widely recognized to be the one and only electrical technicians training program in Sri Lanka that endows participants with a university certificate on completion of the program. All costs pertaining to the program are incurred by Kelani Cables PLC.


Kelani Saviya commenced in 2007 following signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Peradeniya University’s then Vice Chancellor Prof S.B.S. Abeykoon and Kelani Cables Managing Director at the time Hemantha Perera. Over the years, the program has brought immense benefits for novice electrical technicians to acquire knowledge, hone their skills and even find foreign employment. As a result, although the CSR program was to end in 2012, Kelani Cables PLC Director/CEO Mahinda Saranapala ensured that the program was extended for a further period of five years till 2017. As the leading program for budding electrical technicians across the country Kelani Saviya has been further extended to the year 2027.


Sharing his thoughts on the latest milestone of this ground-breaking CSR program, Mahinda Saranapala, Director/CEO, Kelani Cables PLC stated, “We are proud to witness Kelani Saviya passing yet another milestone as it continues to contribute towards the betterment of Sri Lanka’s electrical technicians. Kelani Saviya is the only training program in the country which offers internationally recognized University certificates to the successful candidates and is the most comprehensive program done by a Sri Lankan private sector company when partnering with the government sector. I strongly believe that each and every student who passed out today will be able to maximise the benefit of the training they receive from the program and brighten their professional future.”


University of Peradeniya Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Terrance Madhujith, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Udaya Dissanayake, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Founder of Kelani Saviya Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, Kelani Cables Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr.Anil Munasinghe and Marketing Manager Channa Jayasinghe, Kelani Saviya Course Coordinator Jayantha Wijesinghe, as well as with several other staff members from the University of Peradeniya and Kelani Cables participated in the event.


Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Udaya Dissanayake also shared their comments on this occasion.  As the Course director of ‘Kelani Saviya’ training program, Dr. Prabath J. Binduhewa Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering University of Peradeniya, made a great contributed greatly to its success.
