Heavy rainfall expected in parts of the island today

Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today (8), the Department of Meteorology stated.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura district.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the early morning.
