Deloitte Contributed Boardroom Perspectives as Strategic Partner of the Sri Lanka Corporate Director Summit 2026

Deloitte Sri Lanka recently served as the Strategic Partner of the Sri Lanka Corporate Director Summit 2026, organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors and held at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, contributing to important conversations on strengthening corporate governance and board leadership.

Held under the theme “Future-Ready Sri Lankan Boards - From Compliance to Sustainable Growth,” the summit brought together more than 350 board directors, senior business leaders and governance professionals, alongside over 15 international thought leaders. The event also marked 25 years of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors’ work in advancing corporate governance and board leadership in Sri Lanka.

Deloitte leaders contributed across the summit programme through keynote, panellist and moderator roles, bringing local, regional and global perspectives to discussions on the issues increasingly shaping boardroom agendas.

A key focus of Deloitte’s participation was the growing responsibility of boards in navigating technological change. Duleesha Kulasooriya, Asia Pacific Innovation Leader & Managing Director, Deloitte Center for the Edge, Deloitte Asia Pacific, delivered the keynote address at the session “Governing AI, Cybersecurity & Digital Risk - A Boardroom Priority.” His address highlighted the risks organisations face by not adopting artificial intelligence, while emphasising that the ability to learn and respond is shaped less by geography and more by leadership. He identified curiosity, curation and courage as essential leadership disciplines and highlighted good governance as an enabler of responsible innovation. He also noted that competitive advantage does not come from technology alone, but from leaders who learn faster, choose wisely and act decisively.

Jehil Thakkar, Partner - Marketing, Brand & Communications Leader, Deloitte South Asia, participated as a panellist in the fireside chat “Future-Ready Sri Lankan Boards - The Road Ahead.” His perspectives added valuable regional context to the discussion, offering timely insights into how boards can respond to rapid technological change, evolving stakeholder expectations and shifting economic conditions. He also emphasised the importance of clear direction, effective communication and stakeholder trust in helping organisations navigate uncertainty. The conversation further considered how boards can support innovation and strengthen organisational resilience.

Thivanka Jayasinghe, Partner, Head - Audit & Assurance, Audit Leader, Deloitte Sri Lanka & Maldives, co-moderated the session on “Effective Boards Don’t Just Comply - They Lead.” The session examined how boards can move beyond regulatory compliance by providing stronger strategic direction and oversight, supported by independent judgement, constructive challenge and effective governance structures.

Mayura Malagala, Human Capital Consulting, Engineering, AI & Data and Growth Office Leader, Deloitte Sri Lanka & Maldives, co-moderated the session on, “Talent & Culture - What Boards Can No Longer Ignore.” The discussion highlighted the importance of workforce strategy, leadership, employee wellbeing and organisational culture as boardroom priorities, particularly as organisations respond to skills shortages, changing employee expectations, new ways of working and technology-led transformation.

Deloitte’s participation throughout the summit reflected its commitment to advancing important conversations on corporate governance and board leadership through practical local, regional and global perspectives on emerging boardroom priorities and the future of governance in Sri Lanka.

As organisations continue to navigate changing economic, technological and societal conditions, strong and forward-looking board leadership will remain essential. Such leadership will play a key role in strengthening resilience, maintaining stakeholder confidence and creating sustainable long-term value.
