Cathay Pacific to launch direct flights to Colombo

Cathay Pacific will be launching direct flights to Sri Lanka from Hong Kong after a lapse of four years. The airline will operate three flights per week and the first flight landed in Colombo yesterday. Country Lead Sri Lanka and the Maldives of Cathay, Harish Kiran said that Sri Lanka tourism is picking up and there is demand for this sector and this was the prime reason they re launched this route. “We also launched Chennai simultaneously and will fly three times a week there as well. The airline will also re-add Male to their radar soon.

“At the end of this year we will look at the numbers and it is most likely to add frequency to Colombo.” He however ruled out flying to Mattala airport.“Cathay will be the only airline operating direct flights to Colombo from Hong Kong and with free Visa on arrival offered, we expect Hong Kong nationals’ tourists also to use our flights. We have also observed that many travel companies are extensively selling Sri Lanka in Hong Kong.”Cathay Pacific’s three-times-weekly service from Colombo will be operating on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays via the airline’s Airbus A330 aircraft, offering 28 fully flat seats in Business class and 265 spacious seats in Economy. (SS)
