23The inaugural ceremony of the 1st World Congress on Snakes – 2026, being held in Sri Lanka for the first time, is scheduled to take place with the participation of Environment Minister Dhammika Patabendi.
The international congress, themed “Snakes, Science, Species Survival & Sri Lanka,” is expected to bring together local and international scholars, researchers, environmentalists and experts in the field.The congress will focus on key issues related to snake diversity, conservation and scientific research in Sri Lanka, while providing a platform for experts to share knowledge and discuss challenges concerning snake species and their survival.
The event is expected to highlight the importance of scientific research and conservation efforts in understanding and protecting Sri Lanka’s diverse snake fauna.
