The Thinnai Hotel celebrates Earth Day 2026 through student engagement and environmental awareness

Demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, The Thinnai Hotel marked Earth Day 2026 by organising an Art Competition and environmental awareness programme for students of Urumpurai Sandrothaya Vidyalayam in Jaffna. The initiative brought together students from Grades 6 to 9, providing them with an opportunity to express their creativity while learning about the importance of environmental conservation. Around 28 students participated enthusiastically in the art competition, producing a range of creative and thought-provoking artworks inspired by the Earth Day theme.

As part of the programme, students also attended an awareness session on garbage segregation and responsible waste management. The session aimed to educate young participants on the importance of reducing environmental pollution, recycling, and adopting sustainable practices in their daily lives.

Organisers noted that creating environmental awareness among schoolchildren is an important step towards building a more environmentally responsible future generation. The competition was judged by Mr. and Mrs. Niresh Jeganathan, who joined the event as special guests and evaluated the students’ artistic presentations. Their participation added value to the programme while encouraging students to showcase their talents and ideas related to environmental protection.
