Sri Lanka’s Functional Fitness Community Gears Up for Potential HYROX Event

Sri Lanka’s rapidly growing functional fitness community could soon witness one of the world’s most exciting fitness competitions on home soil, as FHIIT strengthens its presence through its official HYROX affiliation and an expanding base of competitive athletes.

Recognised globally as the World Series of Fitness Racing, HYROX combines endurance running with functional workout stations in a high-intensity indoor race format that attracts elite athletes and everyday fitness enthusiasts alike. As the sport continues to grow worldwide, Sri Lanka is increasingly emerging as a promising destination for future competitions.

FHIIT has established itself as the largest HYROX-affiliated training facility in Sri Lanka, providing athletes with specialised preparation designed specifically for the demands of HYROX racing. A highly experienced coaching team that includes more than five HYROX-qualified trainers supports the facility, ensuring competitors receive professional guidance and structured performance-focused training.

Through these training programmes, several Sri Lankan athletes have already stepped onto the international stage, successfully competing in HYROX events and demonstrating the country’s growing strength in functional fitness.

Currently, over 40 athletes are actively training at FHIIT in preparation for upcoming HYROX races in Bangkok, Singapore and Bengaluru, reflecting the rapidly expanding interest in the sport within Sri Lanka’s fitness community.

Athletes training at FHIIT also benefit from mentorship under Yohan Manoj Rathnayake, Sri Lanka’s only HYROX podium finisher, who plays a key role in preparing competitors for the intensity and strategy required to perform at international events.

With its official HYROX affiliation and an increasingly competitive athlete base, FHIIT is now working towards a long-term goal of bringing an official HYROX race to Sri Lanka. Given the country’s strong fitness culture and growing community of competitive athletes, Sri Lanka is widely seen as an exciting and viable destination for a future event.

Should this vision become a reality, Sri Lanka could soon host one of the world’s most dynamic fitness races, bringing together athletes, spectators and fitness enthusiasts for a competition that celebrates strength, endurance and determination.
