Sri Lanka grants fee visa extensions for foreigners affected by Middle East flight cancellations

The Sri Lanka government has approved visa extensions on a fee basis for foreign nationals unable to leave the country due to flight cancellations to the Middle East, caused by the ongoing military situation in the region.

The measure applies to travelers whose flights were canceled from February 28, 2026, and allows them to remain legally in Sri Lanka for an initial period of 14 days without any charges. In cases of further flight disruptions, visas can be extended for an additional 14 days without penalties.

The proposal, submitted by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, was approved by the Cabinet to provide relief to affected passengers while they make alternative travel arrangements.
