Sri Lanka will host the 6th South Asian Sepaktakraw Championship on 7 and 8 February at the St. Joseph College Sports Complex, marking a major milestone for the development of the sport in the country.
The hosting rights were awarded to Sri Lanka by the South Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (SASTAF) in recognition of the Sri Lanka Sepaktakraw Federation’s administrative capacity and proven ability to conduct international-level competitions.
The Championship will be held with the strong support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with the Minister granting necessary approvals, training facilities, and administrative backing.
The tournament aligns with the national sports policy that promotes youth engagement, sports tourism, and healthy lifestyles.
Five countries – Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh – will compete in the two-day Championship, which will be conducted on a round-robin basis.
The event has received significant international backing, with International Sepaktakraw Federation President Boonchai Lorhpipat scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on 5 February to provide guidance and participate in meetings with regional officials.
The Asian Sepaktakraw Federation President has also expressed strong support and is considering a visit, subject to schedule adjustments.
Publicity for the Championship will be driven through national media coverage and the Sri Lanka Sepaktakraw Federation’s official digital platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and an official website to be launched soon.
A large turnout of Sepaktakraw followers and sports enthusiasts from across the country is expected.
Organisers note that the Championship presents valuable opportunities for corporate sponsorship, brand visibility, and CSR engagement, as Sepaktakraw continues to grow rapidly at regional and international levels.
