The International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) and Akutagawa HRM of Japan have joined forces to launch an education and employment program aimed at providing Sri Lankan youth with career opportunities in the healthcare sector in Japan. The program, called the “Japanese Care Professional Program,” is designed to address the growing need for care workers in Japan by providing a clear and practical pathway from education to employment in Japan. Japan has a shortage of over 430,000 care workers due to the rapidly increasing elderly population and the decline in the local workforce. This situation has opened up a large number of long-term employment opportunities for international professionals and the program aims to provide the same opportunities to Sri Lankan youth. The program is designed based on Japan’s “Specified Skilled Worker (SSW)” visa system in a context where immigration processes in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada are becoming increasingly strict. It is a methodology that focuses on language knowledge, practical skills and professional preparation.
