Gold-winning Nipuni returns home

Sri Lankan rising athlete Nipuni Wasana returned home after winning the gold medal in the women’s 50kg beach wrestling event at the 6th Asian Beach Games held in Sanya, China.

She secured the gold medal after defeating a Vietnamese opponent in a closely contested final.

The triumph is being hailed as a significant achievement for Sri Lankan sports on the international stage.

Nipuni received a warm welcome upon her arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, where officials and supporters paid tribute to her for bringing international recognition to Sri Lanka.

Officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Department of Sports Development, representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force were among those present to welcome her.
