The 76th edition of the Moratuwa Battle of the Golds Inter-School Big Match between traditional rivals St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales College will be played from March 6 to 8 at the De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa. This match should turn out to be even as both teams are also in contention for the Inter-Schools Division One Tier ‘A’ Two-Day Cricket Tournament.
“Actually we have a very strong combination this year with a lot of experienced players and a couple of talented young players in our ranks,” St. Sebastian’s College Coach Pasan Wanasinghe told the Sunday Observer.
“We have performed reasonably well in the tournament so far, and we are in a good position in the Division One Tier ‘A’ Two-Day Cricket Tournament, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.”
The Cambrians will also be fielding a formidable line-up with a number of senior coloursmen and a few top all-rounders in their ranks.
“We started the season with a residential training camp and we did all the pre-season activities and the boys are well prepared to face any kind of situation,” Prince of Wales Coach Premlal Fernando told the Sunday Observer.
“We have about eight players who played in last year’s Big Match and I am overall satisfied with the manner in which the boys have played and how they have maintained discipline on the field.”
