Tamil-Speaking Women Journalists celebrate Women’s Day

The Tamil-Speaking Women Journalists Association recently celebrated International Women’s Day at Choccan Indian Restaurant, Wolfendhal Street, Colombo 13, bringing together women journalists and media professionals for an evening of recognition, solidarity, and inspiration.

The event, led collectively by all members of the Association, highlighted the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women in the field of journalism, while creating a platform to share experiences and reaffirm a shared commitment to empowering women in media.

A special highlight of the evening was the honoring of two senior women journalists from Virakesari, Renuka Prabhakara and Ms. Chandra Fernando, in recognition of their dedication and long-standing service to journalism. The awards were presented by veteran and renowned journalist Annalakshmi Rajathurai.

The gathering served as a meaningful occasion to celebrate achievements and strengthen professional bonds, reflecting unity, inspiration, and the continued journey of women journalists standing strong together.

The event was guided by the founder of TSWJA, Krishni Kanthasamy Ifham, 

Consultant Manique Mendis, Director at the Rainbow Institute, also played an important role in supporting the association.

Also, in attendance were Advisors Annalakshmi Rajathurai, Furkaan Bee Ifthikar, and Anandi Balasingam, and Special Guest, human rights activist Vasuki Jayashangarand Anusha Rajeevan

The Tamil-Speaking Women Journalists Association remains committed to promoting professionalism, solidarity, and the advancement of women journalists across Sri Lanka.
