Sri Lanka’s Sachin Dematapitiya Competes at Prestigious Asian Football Gaming Championship in Mumbai

Sri Lanka Esports athlete Sachin Ishanka Dematapitiya flew to Mumbai, India to compete at the prestigious Asian Football Gaming Championship (AFGC), an invitational tournament that took place inside Comic Con and brought together some of the region’s best football gamers. The event created a vibrant stage for Esports within one of Asia’s biggest pop culture festivals, with fierce competition and packed audiences.

Representing Sri Lanka on this international platform, Sachin battled through six intense matches in the group stage. He secured two wins, faced three losses, and drew one game, giving him valuable exposure against some of Asia’s most skilled players. Despite not advancing to the later stages of the competition, Sachin’s performance demonstrated the growing calibre of Sri Lankan athletes in international Esports, proving that the nation is steadily making its mark in competitive gaming beyond its borders.

His participation at the AFGC highlights the opportunities now open to Sri Lankan Esports players to compete on global stages and gain experience at some of the largest and most exciting events in the world. Each international outing brings more recognition to Sri Lanka’s growing Esports ecosystem and strengthens the pathway for future athletes to follow.
