28Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)and head coach Sanath Jayasuriya have reportedly requested fast bowling legend Lasith Malinga to extend his short-term coaching role with the national team so he can serve as part of the support staff for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Malinga was appointed as a consultant fast bowling coach on a one-month contract from 15 December, 2025, to 25 January, 2026, in preparation for the World Cup.
While his current term ends on January 25, no final decision on an extension has been announced.
Even before his official start, Malinga has been advising the team remotely and assisting with match preparations.
