- Shammi on the way out
- Eran to step in for the breach
Sri Lanka Cricket's Ex-Co is set to convene an emergency meeting at its headquarters today (28), The Daily Morning Sports reliably understands.
This is in view of the Ex-Co deciding to reach a final decision on the imminent resignation of SLC head Shammi Silva.
Silva has reportedly been asked by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to step down from his post when the latter had met the former last Friday (24).
This is consequent to mounting criticism of Silva's administration in the aftermath of the national team's catastrophic exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup which it co-hosted with eventual winners India this Feb-March.
It is learnt that a final decision taken during today's (28) Ex-Co meeting is to be officially confirmed by the SLC to the media tomorrow (29).
When contacted yesterday (27), SLC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ashley de Silva denied any knowledge of Shammi Silva being asked to quit by the Government.
However, he emphasised that any official decision taken by its Ex-Co will be officially notified to the media.
The ex-Nalanda and CCC cricketer Shammi Silva has been at the helm of the game's local controlling body at Maitland Place since 2019.
It is also understood that the President has instructed the Sports Ministry to replace the Shammi Silva led Ex-Co with a caretaker administration headed by ex-MP Eran Wickramaratne – a former Royal cricketer himself.
