ISO 9001:2015 certification reinforces quality, compliance and global market readiness in heat-seal manufacturing
Sri Lanka’s Screenline (Private) Limited has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Kandy manufacturing facility, marking a further step in strengthening the company’s quality-management systems and its alignment with international manufacturing standards required by increasingly demanding global apparel supply chains.
Located at Lot 4/A, Kandy Industrial Park, BOI Kengalla, the facility has been officially certified by SGS United Kingdom Ltd for its management system covering the manufacture of heat-seal labels and graphics and the provision of thermal pressing services.
The certification further strengthens Screenline’s position as a Sri Lankan manufacturer of heat-seal and thermal-transfer solutions serving the international apparel industry, at a time when global buyers are placing greater emphasis on quality consistency, traceability, product safety, environmental accountability and adherence to internationally recognised production standards.
Commenting on the achievement, Screenline Managing Director Nishantha Bakmeege said the certification represented an important step in strengthening both the company’s manufacturing systems and its ability to compete in international markets.
“ISO 9001:2015 certification is an important recognition of the systems, processes and quality discipline we have built into our Kandy manufacturing operation. For us, this is not simply about obtaining an international certification; it is about creating greater consistency, strengthening customer confidence and ensuring that our manufacturing capabilities continue to meet the expectations of global apparel supply chains. As we expand our presence in international markets, maintaining recognised standards in quality, product safety and responsible manufacturing will remain central to our business strategy,” Bakmeege said.
With global demand increasing for reliable, consistent and responsibly manufactured garment-embellishment solutions, the ISO 9001:2015 certification provides independent recognition of the management systems and processes supporting Screenline’s Kandy operation.
Expanding Sri Lankan manufacturing into global markets
Screenline’s heat-seal products are currently supplied to international markets including Mexico, Ghana, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan, linking the company’s Sri Lankan manufacturing capabilities with customers across a diverse range of global apparel markets.
The Kandy facility forms an important part of this expanding manufacturing capability, with the new ISO certification reinforcing Screenline’s focus on delivering products that meet consistent quality requirements and international customer expectations.
The achievement also highlights the wider importance of standards-led manufacturing as Sri Lankan exporters seek to strengthen their position within global value chains. Internationally recognised quality-management systems can play an increasingly important role in supporting market access, building buyer confidence and enabling local manufacturers to compete on quality, reliability and compliance rather than cost alone.
Beyond quality: Safety and environmental responsibility
Screenline’s commitment to international standards extends beyond ISO 9001:2015.
The company also holds OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification covering a range of printed and heat-transfer applications, including heat seals and thermal transfers.
Importantly, this certification is held under Product Class I – baby articles, reflecting the stringent requirements applicable to products intended for particularly sensitive uses.
Screenline has also undertaken Greenhouse Gas verification for its thermal-transfer operations, demonstrating the company’s focus on measuring and addressing the environmental impact associated with its manufacturing processes.
Together, these certifications and verification initiatives reflect three increasingly important dimensions of modern export manufacturing: quality management, product safety and environmental accountability.
For Sri Lankan manufacturers operating within globally integrated apparel supply chains, these areas are becoming progressively more important as international brands, buyers and regulators place greater emphasis on compliance, sustainability and responsible production practices.
Building the future from Kandy
The ISO 9001:2015 certification represents more than the achievement of an international standard. It marks another step in Screenline’s strategy to develop its Kandy premises as a quality-driven manufacturing hub for heat-seal and thermal-transfer solutions serving global markets.
As Sri Lankan manufacturers continue to compete within increasingly demanding international supply chains, Screenline’s investment in systems, standards and responsible manufacturing demonstrates the potential for locally based manufacturing operations to meet global expectations while strengthening Sri Lanka’s value proposition as an export-manufacturing destination. From Kandy to international markets, Screenline continues to strengthen its commitment to quality, innovation and responsible manufacturing across the heat-seal industry.
