Perera & Sons empowers Galewela with clean water initiative at Medabedda Maha Vidyalaya
Perera & Sons (P&S), a company deeply rooted in Sri Lanka’s corporate landscape, continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to sustainability and community well-being, through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative ‘Manumehewara’. The company’s latest effort saw the installation of a state-of-the-art Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant to Medabedda Maha Vidyalaya in Galewela. The school was established in 1935 and serves over 900 students with the support of 45 teachers. This project provides the school and community with much-needed, reliable access to clean and safe drinking water, directly supporting the health and well-being of students and staff.
The RO Plant was inaugurated with Gihan Perera, Managing Director, Perera & Sons, leading the ceremony alongside other company representatives, local officials and members of the school community.
“Corporate responsibility is central to everything we do at P&S,” said Gihan Perera, Managing Director of the company. “Through the ‘Manumehewara’ initiative, the donation of this RO plant is more than a contribution; it is an investment in the health, learning, and future of the Medabedda Maha Vidyalaya community. Every student who benefits from clean water today carries forward the hope of a healthier and brighter tomorrow. Supporting projects like this allows us to create meaningful, lasting change where it matters most, nurturing communities and enabling them to thrive.”
This initiative underscores P&S’s dedication to addressing the vital needs of communities while continuously fostering sustainable development. By providing access to clean water, the project reflects the company’s alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. The company’s broader CSR efforts also contribute to SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Beyond the immediate benefit to Medabedda Maha Vidyalaya, these initiatives also reflect the wider connections and trust that P&S has cultivated with communities throughout the years. The ongoing support of stakeholders enables the company to extend meaningful contributions to projects that empower local development and help enrich communities across the country.
P&S has actively supported RO plant projects since 2021, which demonstrates the company’s continuous commitment to initiatives that help uplift communities and create tangible, lasting benefits. Through the ‘Manumehewara’ initiative and other meaningful community-driven projects. Perera and Sons continues to help build a sustainable and equitable future for Sri Lanka.
