People's Bank, which introduced the tradition of doing business with the bank, is bringing new meaning to the Sinhala and Tamil Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’ customs, by making arrangements to offer gifts to all those who take part in traditional Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’.
Commenting on this initiative, Deputy General Manager-Retail Banking and Overseas Customer Services Aruni Liyanagunawardana stated: “People’s Bank, known for introducing numerous innovations to Sri Lanka’s banking sector, was the first to introduce the concept of celebrating the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a bank in 1973. Since its inception, this program has been conducted annually and has evolved into a highly anticipated tradition, offering attractive gifts to customers who engage in New Year transactions.”
She said the primary objective of this initiative is to encourage a savings culture rooted in tradition, thereby contributing meaningfully to national economic development.
In line with the festive season, children maintaining savings accounts under ‘Sisu Udana’ and ‘Isuru Udana’ will also receive special gifts.
Under this year’s ‘Ganu Denu’ program, customers will receive a glass water bottle for deposits of Rs. 25,000 and a whistling kettle for deposits of Rs. 50,000.
Additionally, children depositing between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 4,999 into existing or newly opened ‘Sisu Udana’ and ‘Isuru Udana’ accounts will receive a pencil case.
