Over 135 women’s groups have called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to activate Sri Lanka’s National Women’s Commission.
They highlight rising violence against women and say the Commission remains inactive due to lack of funds, staff, and office space.
They also criticize the government for undermining the Commission’s independence and accuse it of enabling misogyny.
The activists demand urgent resources, independence, and a timeline for full operation.
