No fuel shortage, public urged to avoid panic buying

The Ceylon Petroleum Private Tanker Owners Association (CPPTOA) today urged the public not to engage in panic buying of fuel, assuring that there was no shortage or disruption to fuel supplies.

CPPTOA Chairman A.M.H. Adhikari told the Daily Mirror that queues had been observed at some filling stations mainly because certain stations had not placed their fuel orders on time.

Commenting on the association's concerns over fuel transportation commission charges, Adhikari said revisions were required to the existing commission formula.

He said the current formula had not taken into account transportation commission charges for the upcountry and southern areas.

"The association has submitted a request regarding this matter, and work is currently underway to revise the formula by incorporating the missing commission components," he said.
