Magical Christmas at Havelock City Mall Begins With Light, Hope, and Generosity

Havelock City Mall ushered in the festive season on November 27th with its much-anticipated annual tree lighting ceremony, marking the official start of Magical Christmas at My Happy Place. The event transformed the mall’s expansive 8,000 square foot atrium into a captivating Christmas Village, enchanting visitors with holiday charm and wonder.

The highlight of the evening was the grand Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which illuminated the center of the mall and set the tone for the joyous celebrations to follow. Guests were treated to a memorable performance by Natasha Rathnayake, whose soulful singing, combined with uplifting choir music, filled the air with warmth and the spirit of the season. The musical performances created an inviting and festive atmosphere, bringing families, friends, and shoppers together to share in the joy and magic of Christmas.

This year’s decorations feature a thoughtfully designed Christmas Village centered around a stunning 35-foot Christmas tree, creating an inviting setting for families, friends, and shoppers to share moments of joy and togetherness throughout the holidays.

As Sri Lanka endured one of its most devastating floods in recent memory, Havelock City Mall and its parent company, Overseas Realty (Ceylon) PLC, embodied the true spirit of Christmas by moving beyond mere celebration. On 4th December, the mall launched the HCM CARES – Community Outreach Initiative to aid families impacted by the floods within Colombo.

During a focused three-day effort, essential supplies and relief items were collected at two main locations — Mireka Tower (next to the Havelock City Mall outdoor area) and the World Trade Centre. Thanks to the generous contributions from tenants, residents, shoppers, and the public, more than 1,000 relief packs were distributed to those in need.

Highlighting the importance of both celebration and compassion, Pravir Samarasinghe, Group CEO of Overseas Realty (Ceylon) PLC, reflected:

"Christmas is a season of light, love, and kindness. While we created a magical experience at Havelock City Mall this year, our thoughts remained with families affected by the floods. Through HCM CARES, we worked to support them and extend the spirit of giving far beyond the mall."

Throughout December, Havelock City Mall continues to deliver meaningful holiday experiences, including live performances, choir concerts, Santa visits, and its special promotion, “Magical Fortune – Unwrap and Win Big”, giving shoppers daily and weekly chances to win prizes, culminating in the grand prize of an iPhone 17 Pro Max.

As recovery progresses across the country, Havelock City Mall remains committed to being “My Happy Place” — a space that not only celebrates holiday cheer but also promotes compassion, unity, and care for the broader community.
