Janashakthi Insurance appoints Hasitha Leanage and Hugh Terry as Independent Non‑Executive Directors

Janashakthi Insurance PLC has appointed Hasitha Leanage and Hugh Terry as Independent Non‑Executive Directors to the Board, with effect from 20th April 2026.  

Hasitha Leanage is a corporate finance professional with an actuarial background and more than 15 years of experience in life insurance, strategic advisory and capital markets.

Over the past decade, he has advised boards, promoters, and shareholders on mergers and acquisitions, capital structure optimisation, balance sheet restructuring and long-term value creation in a range of sectors. 

He began his career at Insight Services in Colombo, working on actuarial models, valuation frameworks, and business planning for leading insurers including Union Assurance PLC and Thai Life Insurance, before joining AXA Life in the United Kingdom, where he was involved in product pricing, embedded value, statutory valuation and solvency analysis.

In 2013, he co‑founded Accede Capital, a Colombo‑based strategic and financial advisory firm, where he serves as Director.

A First‑Class Honours graduate in Mathematics with Actuarial Science from the University of Southampton, UK, and a recipient of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Charitable Trust Scholarship, he has worked in actuarial consulting, product pricing, solvency analysis, and financial strategy in Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. 

The appointment demonstrates the breadth of his experience covering life insurance, financial strategy, and advisory, broadening the Board’s expertise to advance Janashakthi Life’s future direction.

Hugh Terry is a senior insurance professional with over 30 years of global industry experience, specialising in digital transformation, innovation, and business development. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Digital Insurer, a global platform supporting insurance professionals and organisations in navigating technology‑driven change. 

An actuary by profession, he has held operational, consulting, and entrepreneurial roles in the insurance sector and has been based in Singapore for over 25 years, working closely with insurers in Asia and other global markets. His appointment brings significant insurance, digital, and international market expertise to the Board.  

With these appointments, the Janashakthi Insurance Board now comprises, Annika Senanayake, Chairperson,  Prakash Schaffter, Deputy Chairman, S. Renganathan, Director, Warini de Costa, Director, Ramesh Schaffter, Director, Dr. Nishan de Mel, Director, Dr. Gehan Gunatilleke, Director, Dilip de S Wijeyeratne, Director, Hasitha Leanage, Independent Non‑Executive Director, Hugh Terry, Independent Non‑Executive Director and Ravi Liyanage, Director/CEO.  

The appointments reaffirm Janashakthi Insurance’s strategy of leveraging diverse expertise to build resilience and drive innovation in the insurance sector.

These appointments have been notified to the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, and the final documentation for approval will follow shortly.
