ISC Education Marks Fifth Annual Belarusian Get-Together, Celebrating Students, Families and a Growing Medical Community

For ISC Education, international education is not simply about securing a university admission. It is about taking responsibility for a student’s journey from the first conversation about studying abroad through university placement, departure, academic life overseas and the years that follow.

As an international education and university placement organisation, ISC Education works directly with overseas universities and institutions to connect Sri Lankan students with suitable international study opportunities. Its work combines university representation and student recruitment with an end-to-end education delivery and support model, covering counselling, programme and university selection, application processing, admissions coordination, visa guidance, pre-departure preparation and student placement.

Importantly, ISC Education’s relationship with students does not end once they leave Sri Lanka. Its delivery model continues overseas through aftercare, academic monitoring, welfare support, mentoring and ongoing communication with students and their families. This long-term approach allows ISC Education to remain involved throughout the student journey rather than functioning solely as an admissions or placement service.

This philosophy was once again demonstrated at the Annual Belarusian Graduates’ Association Cricket Match and Get-Together, held for the fifth consecutive year. The annual gathering brought together current students, graduates, medical professionals, parents and families, reflecting the community that has developed around Sri Lankan students studying medicine at Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU).

The day commenced with the Annual Cricket Match at Kirimandala Mawatha Grounds, where graduates and current students came together for a spirited contest that has become a hallmark of the annual programme. Beyond the sporting competition, the event provided an opportunity for different generations of the BSMU community in Sri Lanka to meet, reconnect and strengthen relationships outside the academic environment.

The celebrations continued during the evening programme at The Studio, Cinnamon Life, Colombo, where students, graduates, doctors and families gathered for an evening of recognition and fellowship.

A central feature of the evening was the White Coat Ceremony, recognising students as they progress in their medical education. The white coat represents not only a significant academic milestone but also the professionalism, responsibility, integrity and compassion expected of future medical professionals.

The ceremony was made particularly meaningful by the participation of parents and families. Parents were able to share an important milestone in their children’s medical journey, recognising that studying medicine overseas is often a journey undertaken not only by the student, but also with the commitment and support of the entire family.

Their participation reflected an important part of ISC Education’s approach: maintaining a relationship not only with students but also with the parents and families who have entrusted ISC with supporting their children overseas. Parents, mentors and medical professionals joined the students in celebrating their progress and achievements.

Scholarship presentations further demonstrated ISC Education’s continued investment in its student community. With more than 200 Sri Lankan students currently enrolled at BSMU and over half maintaining academic averages above 80%, competition for this year’s Merit and Performance Scholarships was particularly strong.

Forty applications were received from outstanding students, many achieving averages above 9.0. With exceptionally narrow academic margins between candidates, the evaluation also considered consistency, timely completion of obligations, engagement with ISC Education and contribution to the wider student community.

Ten shortlisted students were recognised with medals and certificates, alongside the presentation of the main scholarship awards.

Awards were also presented following the annual cricket match, recognising the Winners, Runners-Up, Best Bowler, Best Batsman and Best All-Rounder. Student speeches, performances and the Grand Raffle Draw completed the evening, bringing students, graduates, doctors and families together in the community environment that ISC Education has continued to develop over the years.

The fifth Annual Belarusian Get-Together ultimately reflected a wider principle behind ISC Education’s work: international education is not a transaction completed when a student receives an admission letter or boards a flight.

Through direct university relationships, student placement, admissions and visa coordination, pre-departure preparation, overseas aftercare, academic monitoring, mentoring and family engagement, ISC Education continues to support students throughout their international education journey while building a community that connects students, parents, graduates and professionals across generations.
