Food inflation in Colombo recorded a sharp decline in February 2026, contributing to a further easing of overall consumer price pressures, according to the latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS).
The year-on-year (YoY) headline inflation, measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI, 2021=100), slowed to 1.6% in February 2026, down from 2.3% in January.
On a YoY basis, food inflation dropped significantly to 0.2% in February, compared with 3.3% recorded in January, indicating a notable moderation in food price increases during the month.
Meanwhile, non-food inflation rose to 2.3% in February, up from 1.8% in January, suggesting slightly stronger price pressures in non-food categories.
