The Essential Food Commodities Importers and Traders Association has assured the public that there will be no shortages of essential goods during the upcoming festive season.
Chairman Ganesh Vinayagasundaram explained that prices of staple items such as lentils, rice, sugar, wheat flour, and onions have decreased owing to lower global market prices.
Speaking to the media, Vinayagasundaram emphasised that Sri Lanka currently maintains adequate stocks of these commodities to meet demand until Vesak. He reassured that there is no cause for concern regarding supply shortages.
A shipment of 500 metric tons of Samba rice from Tuticorin, India, is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka today, which will further strengthen the country's rice reserves.
