DFCC Bank's Ride for the Rosette Unites Communities to Protect Sri Lanka's Leopard

Some rides are measured in kilometres. Others are measured by the difference they make.

DFCC Bank's Ride for the Rosette brought together customers, employees, cycling enthusiasts, families, and wildlife advocates across Colombo, Kandy, and Tissamaharama, united by a shared purpose: protecting one of Sri Lanka's most treasured and vulnerable species, the Sri Lankan Leopard.

The ride is the latest initiative under DFCC Bank's Ride for LifeCSR programme, which has grown into a platform that uses cycling to champion causes that matter. Over the years, Ride for Life has brought communities together to support mental health awareness, women's empowerment, health and wellbeing, and community engagement. This year, the spotlight turned to wildlife conservation, reminding participants that protecting nature is not only an environmental responsibility but also an investment in the future of our communities.

Ride for the Rosette transformed cycling into something more meaningful than a sporting event. Every kilometre ridden became a visible expression of support for conservation, while every participant became an ambassador for one of Sri Lanka's most iconic species. The event demonstrated how ordinary people, united by a common purpose, can contribute to extraordinary outcomes.

That collective commitment extended well beyond the finish line.

Participants made voluntary contributions towards leopard conservation, with DFCC Bank matching every contribution received, doubling the support directed towards on-the-ground conservation efforts.

All funds raised through the initiative, together with the Bank's matching contribution, will support conservation programmes implemented by the Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust (WWCT), including the Yala Buffer Area Project and the Hallgolla Estate Project. These initiatives focus on protecting leopard habitats, advancing scientific research, preserving biodiversity, and strengthening coexistence between wildlife and neighbouring communities.

Commenting on the initiative, Thimal Perera, Director/CEO of DFCC Bank said, "The Sri Lankan Leopard is far more than an iconic species. As the island's apex predator, it plays a vital role in maintaining the health and balance of our ecosystems. Protecting the leopard ultimately means protecting the forests, biodiversity, and natural environments on which we all depend. Through Ride for the Rosette, we wanted to give people a meaningful way to become part of that effort. The Sri Lankan Leopard has roamed these forests for thousands of years. Ensuring it continues to do so will depend on the choices we make today. And sometimes, protecting the wild begins with something as simple as getting on a bicycle.
