The Port of Colombo recorded a 13.9% increase in container volumes from January to April 2026, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) said.
Total container throughput reached over 2.91mn units, compared to 2.56mn units in the same period last year.
In April alone, 761,096 units were handled, marking a 22% increase year-on-year.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority said transshipment cargo accounted for over 80% of total operations.
Plans are underway to call for expressions of interest for the second phase of the West Container Terminal before the end of 2026.
