Championing the innovation and creativity of tomorrow’s tech pioneers

Recognised as exhilarating platforms and technology initiatives for young tech talent, the Grand Finales of the SLIoT Challenge and IESL RoboGames recently concluded with significant and enthusiastic acclaim. As part of its commitment to supporting the Government’s digitalisation journey and nurturing future-ready talent among Sri Lanka’s youth, SLT-MOBITEL took the initiative to support these competitions in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Moratuwa. Emphasising expanded access for youth to demonstrate their technical prowess, the events were held on the University’s premises.

Curated by SLT-MOBITEL to offer a dynamic space for Sri Lanka’s youth to exhibit their skills, the Grand Finales featured extensive demonstrations of innovation, with participants battling in thrilling, good- spirited competitions that showcased their relentless, pioneering spirit. Both Finales were united by a consistent affirmation of the promise that Sri Lanka’s youth herald in advancing the country’s digital future through creativity and technical expertise.

Amplified by SLT-MOBITEL’s support of the platform, the SLIoT Challenge 2026 offered school students, undergraduates, and open-category participants a unique space to present potentially groundbreaking projects in the Internet of Things (IoT). Finalists were able to demonstrate their solutions at exhibition areas including GTN Lab, ICE Room, InsightHub, SLIoT Lab, and Sysco LABS. The event not only distinguished promising new and innovative IoT solutions with practical promise but also reflected SLT-MOBITEL's broader ambition of leading Sri Lanka's technology revolution. Judges evaluated projects in two rounds before announcing winners. 

The winner of the SLIoT Challenge 2026 from the School Category was Team Quarista from Royal College, Colombo 7, with their Smart Waste Management System. Emerging triumphant in the Undergraduate Category was Team Eluvis from the University of Moratuwa with a Smart Shrimp Farm Monitoring System. The Team who distinguished themselves and their technical mastery from the Open Category was RoboticGen Labs, with their design for an Employee Transport Management System.   

Similarly, the Grand Finale of the RoboGames 2026 featured competitions across the three categories of school, undergraduate, and open contestants. The highlight of the Grand Finale was the thrilling BattleBots Challenge which drew crowds of robotics and tech enthusiasts to the University of Moratuwa. In addition to the main event, enthusiasts were also invited to participate in the open BattleBot Challenge.

The winner of the 2026 RoboGames in the School Category was Elizabeth Moir School and their Team; Controlled Chaos. The Champion Team of the Undergraduate Category was FalconX from the University of Ruhuna. The winner of the Open Category was Team Ascension.

SLT-MOBITEL successfully powered connectivity at both events, ensuring seamless, highperformance experiences for the competition venues and participants throughout the weekend, reaffirming the company’s position as the fastest and most resilient network in the nation.

By championing the SLIoT Challenge and RoboGames, SLT-MOBITEL continues nurture innovation and ICT literacy among Sri Lanka's youth. The platforms provided an opportunity for participants to transform ideas into impactful projects and pave the way for breakthroughs that will shape Sri Lanka's digital journey.
