British Council Gampaha Centre Opens

The British Council's newest English Centre opened in Gampaha on 28th January 2026. Located in the heart of Gampaha, the centre offers internationally recognised English language courses to students aged 6 and above, as well as adults and working professionals.

The British Council is the world's most trusted provider of English language education. With over 90 years of international experience in teaching English, the British Council has been in Sri Lanka for nearly 80 years. With the opening of the new British Council centre in Gampaha, students in the region will now have the opportunity to study international English courses that meet global British Council standards.

The opening of the new centre was attended by a group of invited guests including principals of schools in the Gampaha district, zonal education directors, representatives of other educational institutions and residents of the region. This is a good indication that the British Council is ready to work closely with educational institutions in the region for the benefit of students in the Gampaha region.

"Gampaha has long been a hub for education in Sri Lanka. This new centre will make it easier for students in Gampaha and the surrounding areas to access high-quality English education. We are delighted to open a centre in the Gampaha region and support students in this region to achieve their

educational, professional and global aspirations," said Orlando Edwards, Country Director, British Council Sri Lanka, speaking at the opening ceremony of the Gampaha centre.

At the Gampaha British Council English Centre, students will receive a reliable English language education that will help them improve their confidence, communication skills and employability.
