Berendina Group Wins Two Awards at the 2025 CA Sri Lanka TAGS Awards

Berendina Micro Investments Company Limited and Berendina Development Services (Guarantee) Limited recently won two prestigious awards at the 2025 CA Sri Lanka TAGS Awards.

Although the awards were in different categories, they collectively reflect Berendina Group’s contribution to financial inclusion and community development in Sri Lanka. Berendina Micro Investments Company, the country’s first licensed microfinance institution, won the top award for excellence in financial reporting, which highlights its regulatory compliance, accountability, and financial management. Meanwhile, Berendina Development Services Company was recognized under the Non-Governmental Organization category for transparent reporting and sustainable community development programs.

Berendina Micro Investments Company serves over 100,000 low-income clients through 35 branches nationwide, managing a loan portfolio exceeding LKR 6.8 billion, with total assets surpassing LKR 7.2 billion. Berendina Development Services Company operates across seven districts, managing assets worth over LKR 2 billion, with a 99% project implementation rate, delivering livelihood development, water and sanitation facilities, youth development, and educational programs to over 25,000 families living in extreme poverty.

“Transparency and accountability have always been the guiding principles of our operations. These awards reaffirm that. Maintaining excellence in financial reporting is essential, especially when working with the public and managing resources on their behalf. It is not just about winning awards; it demonstrates that we are accountable for every rupee we manage and that we fulfill our commitments,” said Mr. Anura Athapaththu, Chairman of Berendina Group.

The TAGS Awards, based on transparency, accountability, governance, and sustainability, mark their 60th year and symbolize a benchmark for institutional reporting excellence in Sri Lanka. Complex financial reporting processes should be seen not as administrative challenges but as fundamental elements of accountability.
