Battle of Kelaniya from 3-5 April

The 36th annual cricket encounter or the big match ‘Battle of Kelaniya’, between two leading schools in the Gampaha District, Gurukula College and Sri Dharmaloka Vidyalaya is set to be held at the P. Sara Oval from 3-5 April.

Denura Dimansith, a fifth-year coloursman – who was also a member of the Sri Lanka Under-19 squad for the Bangladesh tour last year as a wicket-keeper batter – is set to lead the Gurukula team.

During the ongoing inter-school season Dimansith has scored 838 runs with a century and five half centuries while his deputy Janith Mihiranga, has amassed over 640 runs for the Gurukula team.

Fourth-year coloursman Omal Vihanga is set to captain the Sri Dharmaloka Vidyalaya team with him having piled up over 560 runs for his team with his deputy Sathindra Prabodha having notched up in excess of 450 runs.

On paper, both teams go into this crucial three-day fixture being well-balanced and both teams will strive for a result in what shapes to be a keenly-contested big match.
