About 50 mm of rain expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-western provinces, and in the Anuradhapura district after 1.00 pm today (15).

According to the Department of Meteorology, fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northcentral and Uva provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts in the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Winds will be South-westerly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
