Aberdeen Holdings (Pvt) Ltd has achieved Carbon Neutral Certification from the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), marking a defining milestone in the Group’s sustainability journey and reinforcing its ambition to build businesses that create value responsibly.
For a Group that has spent more than three decades building and expanding businesses across industries and markets, the certification represents more than an environmental achievement. It reflects a deliberate step towards ensuring that future growth is supported by greater environmental accountability, stronger resource efficiency and responsible business practices.
Established in 1995, Aberdeen Holdings has evolved into one of Sri Lanka’s diversified business groups, operating through more than 17 companies across five sectors and supported by a workforce of over 1,800 employees.
As Aberdeen moves beyond 30 years of enterprise and growth, the Group is increasingly focused not only on where it grows, but how it grows.
The carbon-neutral certification process involved a comprehensive assessment of Aberdeen Holdings’ organizational greenhouse gas emissions and environmental practices, covering areas including energy and water consumption, transportation, waste management and other operational activities.
This assessment enabled the Group to take a closer, data-driven view of its environmental footprint and undertake the necessary measures towards achieving carbon neutrality.
For Aberdeen Holdings, the achievement signals a broader shift towards embedding sustainability more deeply into business decision-making and operational practices across the Group.
“Receiving this certification is an important milestone for Aberdeen Holdings,” said Mr. Abdullah Kassim, Group Director of Aberdeen Holdings. “It reflects our commitment to understanding and reducing our environmental impact while strengthening responsible practices throughout the Group. We see this not as an endpoint, but as a foundation for continued action.”
With businesses operating across diverse industries, Aberdeen Holdings recognizes that the next chapter of sustainable growth will require businesses to balance ambition with accountability - creating economic value while remaining conscious of their impact on the environment and society.
The certification therefore represents a beginning rather than a finish line. This milestone was achieved with the support of Co-Energi (Pvt) Ltd., which provided consultancy services and guidance throughout Aberdeen Holdings’ carbon neutrality journey, while the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) undertook the evaluation and certification process.
Moving forward, Aberdeen Holdings intends to continue evaluating its environmental performance, improving resource efficiency and strengthening responsible practices across its businesses, while encouraging a culture in which sustainability becomes increasingly integrated into everyday operations.
As Aberdeen Holdings enters its next era, the Group remains committed to building on three decades of enterprise with a clear ambition: to grow responsibly, operate consciously and create lasting value for generations to come
