76th Battle of the Golds encounter: Abans PLC champions sporting excellence

Abans PLC has announced its title sponsorship of the 76th edition of the “Battle of the Golds” cricket encounter between St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales’ College. The announcement was made at a recent press conference.

Now in its 76th year, the encounter remains a fixture in Sri Lanka’s school cricket calendar. The series will include a three-day Test match from 6 to 8 March, followed by the 41st One-Day match on 14 March and a T20 match on 15 March.

Speaking on the partnership, Abans PLC Chief Marketing Officer Dr. Chathura Jayawardena stated:

“We are incredibly proud to associate with the ‘Battle of the Golds,’ a tournament that has long embodied the passion and discipline of school cricket. At Abans, we believe in building and supporting platforms that inspire the next generation of sports stars. This partnership signifies our commitment to investing in Sri Lanka’s youth and celebrating the enduring spirit of collegiate cricket.”

The partnership was welcomed by Major Damindra Kudaligama, Principal of Prince of Wales’ College, and Rev. Fr. Daya Dharshana Perera, Rector of St. Sebastian’s College, who noted that the encounter has become an important part of the heritage of both institutions and continues to attract interest in Moratuwa and surrounding areas.

Both schools have produced national-level cricketers over the years. St. Sebastian’s College alumni include Duleep Mendis, Romesha Kaluwitharana, Vishwa Fernando, Avishka Fernando and Praveen Jayawickrama, while Prince of Wales’ College has produced players such as Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanna, Amal Silva and Shehan Jayasuriya.

Through the title sponsorship, Abans PLC said it aims to support the organisation of the event and contribute to wider engagement with school cricket.
