Batticaloa International Airport to be developed to support the tourist industry

On the 1st of thursday, the Batticaloa International Airport was visited on Thursday by Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister for Tourism, to explore future growth prospects and how it might contribute to Sri Lankan internal travel and tourism.

BTIA was attended by Minister of tourism, D V Chanakas, Ministers of Civil Aviation, Developing Export Areas, Representatives of Batticaloa District Assemblies, Major General (Rtd) G. A. Chandrasiri, AASL President, Rajiv Sooriyearachchi, AASL Vice President, Deirdre De Livera, AASL Director, Senior Of Special Meeting, and the Minister of Aviation for Civil Aviation and Export Area, Batticaloa International Airport (BTIA).

It has been restored to public service in 2018, located 2,4km southeastern of Batticaloa, which awakens the East coast of Sri Lanka and connects you with all Sri Lankan domestic airports. The airport, which is the gateway into East Sri Lanka is geo-strategically placed.
